About
broken.phase is an independent curatorial project centred on painting as a site of instability. Faces and bodies emerge, fragment and disappear between gesture, material and surface.
The works move between figuration and dissolution, exploring states in which identity, memory and perception remain provisional rather than fixed. Features are obscured, overwritten or interrupted; paint reveals forms only to partially withdraw them again.
The artist remains anonymous. This absence is not conceived as mystery or spectacle, but as a way of separating the work from the biography of its maker. The paintings are encountered through exhibitions, individual works and curatorial texts.
broken.phase is curated and publicly represented by Ulrike S., art historian and curator.
