In assembly_00, the face is constructed from fragments rather than described as a continuous form. Broad passages of turquoise, yellow, black, white and muted red accumulate across the surface, allowing individual features to emerge while repeatedly interrupting their connection to one another.

The eyes remain among the most stable elements of the image, yet even they are embedded within shifting bands of colour and gesture. A vertical division runs through the centre of the face, while irregular marks move across forehead, cheeks and mouth. The figure holds together not because its boundaries are secure, but because scattered elements remain sufficiently aligned for recognition to occur.

assembly_00 approaches figuration as an act of provisional construction. The portrait appears to be assembled in the same moment that its coherence is being tested. Rather than resolving fragmentation into unity, the painting allows both conditions to remain visible at once: separate marks, surfaces and colours temporarily forming the presence of a face.
